Of Security Studies & Zombies...

Just came break from a much needed break from Prof Wee’s lecture on Sunzi Bingfa. A lot of us are in a zombie-like state due to the gruelling push to finish our essays by this morning. Yes…that’s right, the first of many essays to come has been submitted! The due date for our Security Studies was this morning at 0830hrs. 2 of my syndicate mates did not sleep the last 2 nights! In the last 56 hours, I slept all of 8 hours!!! 1 down and many more essays to go…
Next up for this weekend is to prepare for next week’s discussion under the Campaigning & War Studies module. My learning buddy and I are anchoring the discussion on the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia and the 1990 Gulf War. So we have to do the reading up and to answer the questions posed to us. Also, the next essay to be submitted is a 1000-word essay on Military Professionalism in the context of the SAF. That’s next Friday. And on Wednesday, we have to do a presentation concerning International Law on questions posed to us two days ago. And…we have to start coming up with our synopsis for the Commandant’s Research Paper to be submitted in 2 weeks time. As one of the Senior Directing Staff commented, “Time management is very important!”…
Amidst all the blur of lectures, discussions and plenary, the Country Presentations by our International Officers have certainly helped to liven up the atmosphere. Brendan from New Zealand started the ball rolling on Tuesday followed by John from Australia yesterday. Both presentations made me want to go for a holiday!!!
Ah well…to reward myself and also as a gesture of thanks to my BH for taking care of the girls and me when I was researching and writing my essay this week, we’ll be going out for dinner and movie tonight! Watching ‘Babel’…after the weekly Happy Hour at the Officers’ Mess. The course is also celebrating the submission of our first paper by going out to the Ministry of Sound tonight…We’ll probably go if I’m not too zonked out!!!
